Last Asylum mixes settlement building, resource gathering, hero squads and world activity. Your early goal is not to chase every system at once; it is to understand what feeds your Sanctuary and keep your next useful upgrade moving.
The simple version: keep the Sanctuary developing, protect your resource flow, use expeditions instead of leaving survivors idle, and build a hero squad that can keep clearing the content in front of you.
Your first priorities
Learn the Sanctuary loop. You manage and expand a sanctuary while treating patients and maintaining the settlement. Treat the Sanctuary as the centre of your account and check which supporting buildings are holding back the next upgrade.
Keep resources flowing. Timber, herbs, food and other supplies support rebuilding and settlement development. Avoid draining everything at once if it leaves your next construction or research step stuck.
Send survivors out. Survivors can be dispatched to gather resources and secure outposts outside the sanctuary. Expeditions and outposts are part of the wider progression loop, so idle capacity is usually wasted capacity.
Build enough infrastructure. Production facilities, warehouses and residential buildings are part of settlement expansion. Warehouses and production buildings matter because they support the upgrades that actually move your account forward.
Develop a usable hero squad. Hero squads are used to reclaim plague-affected towns and contest important locations. Start by understanding hero roles and named skills before chasing unsupported tier lists.

Sanctuary & buildings
Your settlement is the long-term progression engine. Upgrade requirements and building prerequisites become more important as you advance.
Heroes and defensive towers are part of holding off the Rat Swarm, including encounters with the Rat King. Heroes also form squads for activity beyond the Sanctuary.
Do not let tier lists, perfect build orders or endgame event optimisation distract you before you understand your own bottlenecks. Last Asylum changes over time, and a mature-server strategy can be a bad fit for a new account.
